It’s Never Too Late to Learn
Have you ever dreamed of pursuing a passion at university, but thought you were too old? Seniors across Australia are attending university lectures for free and for the sheer joy of learning.
They are members of the University of the Third Age, known as U3A — an international non-profit organisation offering older people low-cost educational opportunities.
U3A movement was established in France in 1973 with Australia establishing its first U3A in Melbourne in 1984 and quickly caught on in other communities in Australia.
University is a loose term – there are no academic requirements and no exams, just opportunities to keep learning. Learning can be either informal through U3A classes or groups (run by volunteers sharing their knowledge/skills), or more formalised through attending lectures at a University.
